Overview
Partner Serwis, the Polish company specializing in overhauling wind turbine generators, is proud to announce the achievement of a new milestone: the successful repair and renovation of a 2875 kW 6 kV Indar generator. Until now, most of the units serviced by the company operated at lower voltages and power ratings, with the largest previously handled being 2400 kW.
Project Background
This generator was originally designed and manufactured about ten years ago. After the expiration of the original service contract with the equipment manufacturer, the unit was brought to the Partner Serwis workshop in Legnica for diagnostics and repairs.
Technical Challenges and Diagnosis
Upon careful analysis, the technical team identified several significant issues. These included damage to the stator windings at the front of the generator and damage to the rotor windings, with the stator winding damage being a result of the rotor winding failure.
Repair Solutions Implemented
The repair process involved an extensive scope of work. The team rewound both the stator and rotor windings with new materials, performed Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) on the windings, and replaced the bearings with new ones to ensure optimal performance.
Testing and Validation
Following the repairs, the generator underwent comprehensive testing. This included advanced insulation tests such as dielectric dissipation factor (DDF) and partial discharge (PD) measurements. The final validation step was a load test up to 1200 kW, which was successfully conducted at the Energotest branch in Opole.
Project Challenges
According to Janusz J, the head of the Technical Department, this project was particularly demanding because this type of generator was unfamiliar to the team and was being overhauled in their workshop for the first time. Another significant challenge was the need to complete the large-scale rewinding of both the stator and rotor windings within the timeframe expected by the customer.
