The lines of continuous casting of steel COS in metallurgy are equipped with electromagnetic mixers, which are to mix the liquid steel in coagulating vein flowing from the crystallizer of COS machine. The effect of this process is obtaining the even layout of admixtures across the whole section of the coagulated vein.
The mixers work in extremely hard conditions. The necessity of creating a powerful alternating magnetic field involve the flow of high currents through the coils of the mixer, which results in inducing major electrodynamic forces and emission of heat. Additionally, the mixer operates closely to hot steel, and in some cases the coils are situated directly in the cooling medium (water demi), which rise significantly the quality requirements for the insulation system.
