To obtain satisfactory reliability of given device’s work, it is important to remember about electrical powering, which is an essential element in chain of factors influencing the reliable work of the device.
Quality of electric energy
The quality of electric energy supplied to receivers is described by four basic parameters – voltage, frequency, content of higher harmonics and symmetry of polyphase system.
For the values deciding about the quality of electric energy, described as nominal, all the electric receivers are constructed. Efficiency of the receivers and its period of time working failure-free, depend in higher or lesser degree on the fact, if the parameters of energy quality, taken by them, are sustained at the level of nominal values, pre-determined, or they differ from them.
In order to define the quality of the network, we use portable network parameters analysers. This allows, for example, to analyse the harmonic content, and to record the capacity in longer periods of time.
To monitor and record the quality of energy, we propose also selection and installing stationary recorders, which can be connected into network and operates from the level of computer. Monitoring and recording of energy quality gives the basis for defining its quality and its influence on proper receivers work.
Working inspection of electric power devices
For the proper work of electrical devices, it is essential to make periodic examinations and working inspections. Erroneous working of safety devices, caused by the discontinuity of the electric circuits or badly set transmitters, can result in not working of the safeguard or non-selective working, which leads to broadening the area of possible failure or permanent damage of the receiver. Out-of –control wear and tear process of insulating materials, for example transformer oil, exceeding allowed values, can cause a failure of the device, fire and long-term lack of powering.
The scope and time of performing these activities should be in accordance with recommendation of producers and with Instruction Manual. Considering the short times of potential-free stoppages, we prefer thermovision diagnostics of electric power devices – during the stoppages the weakest elements, indicated by the thermovision report, are removed.
